Where there is no guidance, a people falls,
but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. (Proverbs 11:14 ESV)

As an optional but integral part of the fundamentals training in Biblical counseling, Reigning Grace Institute is hosting a book study group via zoom or in-person near the church hosting RGI training modules.  Book study groups are led by certified Biblical Counselors and have been found effective for growing a community of counselors for mutual care, accountability, and encouragement in the worthy pursuit of certification and practice of Biblical counseling.  The group aims to facilitate conversations in the context of the required readings to sharpen one another in the Scriptures and practical applications.

What to Expect:

Expect to grow in the discipline and skill of reading Scripture and Christian books for personal application and spiritual growth.  The process of training as a biblical counselor is one of the best avenues for walking wisely with the Lord.  Growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord, Jesus Christ, is a community effort; it happens best when true authentic fellowship exists.  This means that we should expect to extend grace to one another as God does His sanctifying work in us.

Expect to follow a reading schedule.  All the required books for the fundamentals training have been arranged on a schedule for your convenience.  The schedule includes the dates the group will be discussing various chapters.  You are expected to pre-read the chapters and be prepared to share insights or ask related questions for sound group discussions.  Some modules have very challenging schedules.  It is understood that not everyone shares the same capacity or time availability to keep up with the reading challenge.  You are expected to know how to limit your intake of information while allowing yourself to be stretched.  All students are allowed to limit their reading and participation in discussion to one book at a time.

Expect differences in theological distinctions within the group.  Many of the required readings may have a different theological stance than what each student currently holds.  You are expected to examine the Scriptures to see if what is said is true just as the Bereans did in Acts 17.  Reigning Grace Institute is a training center for a variety of certifying organizations that have different allowances for theological distinctions.  You are expected to research each organization to determine what organization best suits your stance.
